Watch TV? People may wonder if it is still a good choice in today’s climate. We have so many choices, analog TV, broadcast TV, cable TV, and we can even watch TV on PC so it’s no question why it can be confusing and difficult for us to decide. Why don’t we scrutinize the whole idea of watching TV, dig into the pros and cons of TV before deciding whether to go for it?

1. Better and Global Reception

Satellite TV receives TV feeds from satellites orbiting the earth. Since the satellites are distant from earth’s surface, the coverage is wide and transmission free from distortion as a result of rough terrain. Viewers can watch TV with such clarity without interruption.

2. Reliability

Storms and lightning are the bane of blackouts and power cuts. Even when power is restored, TV that relies on cable lines would still experience a downtime period. But you can watch TV almost instantaneously. You would not be inconvenienced and miss your favourite movie or TV program at all.

3. Viewing Choices

Since TV explores the space for free-to-air TV broadcasts, the potential for limitless access to different TV stations is not exaggerated. Anyone can watch TV and tune into hundreds to thousands of channels without restriction. Whether you speak English or not, there are TV news, entertainment programs, movies and TV series in other languages that are native to you. Moreover, you get to enjoy exciting TV programs which are not available at your local TV broadcast stations.

Cons to Watch TV

1. Expensive Monthly Subscriptions

I was quite reluctant to include this as a con. After all, the prices of monthly subscriptions to TV vendors are considered lower than cable TV. But there are always other cheaper options such as installing your own DIY dish system or to watch TV on PC using internet software.

2. Troublesome Dish Setup

Don’t bother to fiddle with the dish setup if you are technically challenged. It can mean endless headaches to you. Rather, save yourself the trouble and hire the service provider to do so. In most cases, there are promotional offers or bundled deals that come with free installation and equipment. Grab them! Did I mention that it would be challenging for renters since your landlord may charge you for installing the dish on the roof?

3. Vulnerability & Aesthetics

Placing a dish out in the open would expose it to unnecessary damage especially if you live in an estate where there are many kids. Sometimes, a ball may accidentally land on the roof and knock off the dish. You may laugh at it but it does happen rather frequently in low-rise residential estates.
